Ever since Kartik Aaryan walked out of Dharma Productions’ much-anticipated Collin D’Cunha directorial Dostana 2, due to “creative differences” in 2021, rumours have been circulating about a fallout between the actor and producer-director Karan Johar.
Hence, cinema fans were taken by surprise when Karan attended the premiere of Kartik’s recent release Satyaprem Ki Katha. The matter received further spotlight when the two were photographed together at a panel discussion during the 14th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in 2023, hinting that they might have resolved their issues.
Meanwhile, further increasing the excitement of fans, Kartik Aaryan was recently spotted at Karan Johar’s residence in Mumbai, fuelling speculation about their potential collaboration. Photos of the actor leaving Karan’s home in his black Lamborghini Urus have now gone viral on social media.
During the Melbourne Film Festival, Karan had showered praise on the actor and said: “Kartik’s films have deeply resonated with the country and have always brought in so much fervour back to the cinema halls. More power to him. May his contribution to cinema always continue.”
A while ago, reports suggested that his fallout with Karan might affect his career and during the promotions of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, he avoided a question posed by The Indian Express regarding the matter and said, “I just focus on my work. That’s all I would like to say about this.”
“What happens, at times, is people make ‘baat ka batangad’ (make a mountain out of a molehill). There is nothing more to it. No one has so much time (to think so much). Everybody just wants to work, do good work. Other than that, things are just rumours,” he added.
Dharma Productions’ statement after Kartik Aaryan quit Dostana 2
Days after it was reported in 2021 that Kartik Aaryan had walked out of the project due to “creative differences”, after shooting for almost two weeks, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions released a statement informing fans that they would be recasting Dostana 2.
“Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence – we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Collin D’Cunha. Please wait for the official announcement soon,” read the statement by Dharma Productions.
The film, a spiritual sequel to Tarun Mansukhani’s 2008 movie Dostana, was initially announced with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Laksh Lalwani in the lead roles.
Addressing the topic during an episode of Aap Ki Adalat, Kartik said: “I have not spoken about this yet. I believe, and it’s my etiquette, that whenever there is a rift between an elder person and a younger person, the younger one is not supposed to say anything.”
