Jaskaran Singh, a 21-year-old man hailing from an ordinary family in the border village of Khalra in the Tarn Taran district of Punjab won Rs 1 crore on the reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.
A student of the DAV College, Amritsar, Singh will now attempt the Rs 7 crore question in the next episode, which will air on September 4 at 9 pm.
Singh, who is preparing for the civil services, had been attempting to make it to the show for the last four years. His village, Khalra, touches the Indo-Pak border and is also known for human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
“I started attempting to be on the show as soon as I turned 18, as it is a basic requirement to be on the show. I went to Mumbai thrice for the interview for the show. This was my fourth attempt and this time I went through the interview,” said Singh while talking to the media in his village.

He has returned to the village as the show was shot in advance and on the lines of the policies, has kept how the next episode continues a secret.
“People outside Punjab think Punjabis only go to Canada and nothing else. I have proved that Punjabis are not behind in any field,” he said.
Singh’s family has some agricultural land. The young man has been receiving applause since he appeared in the show’s promo. Local Aam Aadmi Party MLA Savarn Singh Shun and former Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha have congratulated him for his achievement.
