Influencer-turned-actor Kusha Kapila, who recently announced her divorce from husband Zorawar Ahluwalia, said in an interview that she was ‘bullied’ into revealing the news publicly, but is glad that she was able to do it on her own terms. She said that this is the first time that she is revealing this bit of information, as she spoke about the trolling that she faced in the aftermath of her separation.

At the India Today Conclave, Kusha was asked about the revelations about her personal life that she has made recently, and how she dealt with the ‘mud-slinging’. She said, “I actually allot a certain time of the day to crying and feeling bad about it. I give it exactly half an hour, and then I move on with my life. There’s so much to do.” She continued, “I was honestly bullied into sharing my personal news. This is the first time I’m sharing that. I was 100% bullied into sharing it. But I’m glad I shared it on my own terms. I did not want anyone else sharing information about my life with the world, without consulting with me first. You have to put on blinders.”

Kusha announced her separation from Zorawar in June. She wrote in a social media statement, “Zorawar and I have mutually decided to part ways. This hasn’t been an easy decision by any measure but we know it’s the right one at this point in our lives. The love and life we have shared together continues to mean everything for us, but sadly, what we seek currently for ourselves doesn’t align. We gave it our all, until we couldn’t anymore.”

Following the announcement, a clip of her talking about infidelity went viral on social media. Kusha’s old comments drew criticism, which she addressed shortly afterwards. “This topic is officially over for me, moving forward. I haven’t given a statement to anyone nor will I ever give one. I do not have a PR team so no story is a plant. Ho gaya ab (It’s done now),” she wrote on social media. Even Zorawar spoke up in her defence. He wrote, “We realise we live public lives, but we still hold certain things sacred. Our marriage and respect for each other being one of them. Divorce, much like our marriage, was a decision we both made together, after much deliberation and thought. It was a tough and painful decision but one we took collectively, for the sake of both of our well-being.”

Kusha made her acting debut in Karan Johar’s short film in the Netflix anthology Ghost Stories. She has since appeared in Plan A Plan B, Selfiee, Sukhee and the series Masaba Masaba. Most recently, she starred in the ensemble comedy Thank You for Coming, alongside Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, Dolly Singh and Shibani Bedi.
