A 29-year-old son of a former Congress corporator of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has been found dead at home and the Opposition BJP has alleged he was a BBMP contractor and upset over pending bill payments and bribery demands—claims dismissed by his father.
The death of Gautham, a resident of Attiguppe in Bengaluru’s Chandra Layout and the youngest son of Congress leader K Doddanna, came to light on Thursday afternoon when his family members had to break open his room as he had failed to respond to their calls, according to the police complaint.
Doddanna’s complaint said that Gautham did not come out after going to his room following lunch on Wednesday. As he did not respond to repeated knocks on his door, Gautham’s family members broke it open and found him dead in the room on Thursday afternoon.
In the complaint, Doddanna also said that Gautham had been suffering from depression for a few months but did not share the information with anyone. The former corporator said he did not know the exact reason behind the death.
DCP (west) Laxman B Nimbargi said that a case of unnatural death had been registered and that an investigation was underway.

The BJP immediately launched an attack on the government claiming that Gautham was a contractor. BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Siddaramaiah’s new scheme for Karnataka Citizens -“Atmahatya Bhagya” Contractor Gautam Committed suicide in Bengaluru. Contractors had met the Governor and accused “Brother” of demanding a 15% bribe for the bill payment. Siddaramaiah and his government is busy collecting funds for Loksabha Elections. Karnataka has turned out to be an ATM for Congress HighCommand.”
Former MLA C T Ravi, while making a similar charge, alleged that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar demanded a 15 per commission from contractors. “The CONgress government in Karnataka has come up with “Suicide Bhagya” for Contractors. BBMP contractor Shri Gautam has committed suicide after facing delays in getting his payment for the work executed by him. Recently, BBMP contractors had accused the State’s Deputy Chief Minister of demanding 15% commission to clear pending payments. Corrupt CONgress is not only ruining Suvarna Karnataka but also taking lives in the process,” he tweeted.
Speaking to The Indian Express, however, Doddanna said that Gautham was neither a contractor nor had any licence. “He was the youngest child and we were planning to fix his marriage. He was running a poultry farm and had nothing to do with contract work. Just for political reasons, they are misusing my son’s death,” he said.
